Boxed beef extended Monday's gains. Choice rose $2.78/cwt (about 3¢/lb) to $372.22 and Select added $1.29 (about 1¢/lb) to $358.85, widening the Choice/Select spread back to $13.37 from $11.88. The loin led, but the middle-meat cuts underneath it gave back ground: ribeyes, tenderloins and short ribs fell, and briskets slid on heavy trade. The pork carcass cutout eased again, with bellies, loins and butts lower and picnics and ribs higher.

Holiday / seasonal buy note
Día de los Muertos (Nov 1–2) is 5 days out, and Thanksgiving (Thu Nov 26) is about four weeks away. Picnics firmed today, so late tamale and pozole buyers who haven't covered yet are now paying a little more than Monday. Briskets dropped again on heavy volume, which helps barbacoa buyers filling this week. For holiday roasts, ribeyes and tenderloins both fell on solid volume today, which makes this a reasonable window to start pricing prime rib and tenderloin coverage for Thanksgiving and December. Turkey isn't in these boxed-beef and pork reports. See the holiday buying calendar.
